Hi Everyone,
Well here I am at just after three in the morning starting to write this
newsletter.
My neighbours seem to have inherited a mutt dog which has been barking
constantly since midnight and is driving me nuts.
With that and other stuff on my mind, I can't sleep so I may as well make
myself useful.
I think the menopausal thing may be kicking in as well. Restless sleep, hot
and cold, grumpy and happy. Gee I sound like one of Snow Whites dwarfs
!!! Maybe there's a new comedy song coming up . . . . . . . .
These months are scooting by so quickly. It's hard to believe Christmas is
just around the corner.
A lot of things have been happening in my life of late (some good, some not
so good)
I've had a couple of close personal friends pass away and had the priviledge
of singing at their funerals.
Can't say this is something I enjoy but it's a real honour to do. Thank god
for rescue remedy to settle the emotions.
It's also been a time of change. People move in and out of your life for
whatever reason and at the moment it's a time to rebuild for the next
chapter of my life. One door closes, one door opens. That's the way it
appears.
There are lots of wondeful things to look forward to.
Next month I am going to be a nana. Yeah, how exciting is that.
My son Peter and his partner Leesha are having a baby boy and I just can't
wait.
It's just a few weeks away and already I'm getting clucky. That's what
nana's do isn't it ???
I'm going to tell you about my trip down the lower North Island soon but
last year, my friend Lynette (who sometimes travels with me) and I had a
great time whilst travelling around visiting op shops, junk shops, save
marts etc... We had a blast and went mad on collecting shot glasses, china,
bit's and bobs etc.. All those kinds of things that look lovely on the
shelf but tend to collect dust once the novelty wears off.
This year it was baby's clothes, toy shops. Things are so cute and the
smaller they are THE MORE EXPENSIVE they seem to be!!
Anyway, I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to holding this new
grandchild in my arms.
I think I feel another menopausal emotional thing coming on . . . .
More exciting news is that it is now confirmed that I will be going back to
Europe in June/July of next year.
I have been booked to be the opening act for the Truck Stop
Festival in Kolding, Denmark at the end of June and will go on
to do some things in Norway. My hope is to get to Germany and maybe back
through the USA to see friends.
I'll be working with the Ivan Johnson Band in Denmark. Other acts
include Paul Overstreet, Billy Keeble & Joni Harms, so it's going to be a
really neat experience.
Hopefully, I'll have some more details in my next newsletter but please keep
checking the website for updated information.

THE TOUR
Day one: Started off my trek with an evening 'do'
at Princess Alexandra Retirement Village in
Napier.
This was my second time there and we had a lovely evening.
I really enjoy singing at these places and my thanks to the staff and
Rochelle for organising it for me.
Day two:
Met up with Lynette who had already travelled down that way prior to me
arriving.
An afternoon fundraising concert for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal at
the Havelock North Community Centre.
This concert was organised by Gail Bridgeman and featured well
known local entertainers Wi Butler, Kem Wairoa and Sheila,
along with myself.
There was a lovely turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy the show along with
a fabulous devonshire afternoon tea. Best scones I've ever tasted.
Day three: My original show was cancelled a
couple of weeks prior to coming down so my sincerest thanks to Aroha
Thompson who helped organise a fill in afternoon show for me at the
Hastings RSA.
It was great to see some line dancers there as well so much appreciated.
Day four: Lynette and I visited the Hawkes Bay C
& W Club in the early afternoon. What a great band and fantastic
hospitality.
After that we headed off to the Taradale RSA for the Gatheround with Kem and
friends.
Big crowd there (some of which were fixated to the TV screen)
It's certainly hard to be an entertainer when the World Cup is on !!!!
Thanks Kem for having me there. Always a pleasure to sing at the Taradale
RSA.
Day five & six: Travelling, visiting family and
op shops . . . and more op shops . . . .
Day seven: A return visit to the Palmerston North
RSA for an afternoon concert.
This show was organised by Leith Rowe and there was a really good turnout
(especially from Resthomes)
A very enjoyable afternoon. Thanks Leith
Stayed at the fabulous Caroline and Clive Robinson's motel. Of course
Caroline is the Palmerston North Town Crier who I met a few years ago in
Norfolk Island. We just hit it off straight away and both Lynette and I
enjoy spending time with them. Great people.
Day eight: Early start and off to the Upper Hutt
Cosmopolitan Club for an afternoon show.
Different upstairs venue this time round but it was perfect. Good turnout
and lovely crowd to sing to.
Thanks Dean for the venue and support.
Day nine: We had a whole morning to kill so spent
it trawling second hand & curio shops in Upper Hutt. Got some great bargins.
More baby clothes. . . . he he - did I mention I can't wait !!!!
Off to Titahi Bay to spend some time with Gail Russell before we
headed down to the Bowling Club to set up.
Of course Gail's hospitality is second to none and here's Lynette and I at
the kitchen table eating yummy home made chocolate eclairs.
I was really looking forward to going back to the Bowling Club. Last year
it turned into a bit of a comedy cabaret evening and once again, people came
out and supported it. It was great to have a visiting club from Whitby
there and some different people (blokes I mean) to pick on.
I managed to buy an awesome hula skirt at the Upper Hutt Save Mart and I had
four blokes on stage, one of which was wearing the hula skirt and the rest
had lei's draped around their necks.
Of course I had to sing Gail's awesome song called 'Come On
Everybody Let's Do The Hoochie Coochie'. Gails partner Peato
is playing the ukelele and the song just lends itself to having fun.
I keep telling everyone I would wear a coconut bra if I could just find one
my size !!! I reckon the tree would topple over before it was ready.
Those of you that know me would probably agree.
Part way through the night I had the last nip from a bottle of port that was
at the bar and John had to go to the other downstairs bar to find another
bottle. God now I'm sounding like a person with a problem.
WELL - I don't know what happened, but shortly after I had that little nip
- my eyes started glazing over and my tummy started to gurgle and Joy was
not in a happy place.
In pure desperation I got Lynette to man the deck (look after my music)
while I made several exits to the powder room over a period of 20 minutes or
so.
MY GOD - what did you guys do to me? One way to shut me up.
Thankfully I'd got through the majority of the evening before this happened
but I'm sure some people were wondering why I kept disappearing.
You should have seen the look on Lynette's face when I told her she had to
take over. Priceless !!!
A N Y W A Y - got through it, had a great nights sleep at Gails then on
the road bright and early to get home.
Thanks to everyone who helped and supported the shows. It's very heartening
to see good turnouts and great to catch up with old friends.
We had a perfect day for travelling and got home early enough to chill out a
few hours before preparing for the next show on Sunday in Tairua.
I did a round trip of just under 1800km. No wonder I'm still tired.
Tairua had their annual Britz at the Beach which
of course celebrates all things English. Alot of work had gone into making
this a very successful weekend.
I had a small but very appreciative crowd turn up and hope to be involved
again next year.
I injured myself lifting speakers and have managed to pull a muscle in my
shoulder/arm area and damage my rotator cuff ??
Whatever that is - it's bloody painful and I'm now waiting on a scan to
see how bad it is.
Of course it's my right arm which I use mostly but I have no strength in it
at the moment.
The joys of getting old. I reckon just stick me in a pot, render me down
and bring me back a standard size 12 or 14 with no hangups.
